Woman arrested at Changi Airport check-in area for abusing public servant

SINGAPORE – A woman, 42, was arrested at Changi Airport and is being investigated for using abusive language against a public servant, said the police on June 8.

She was arrested at Terminal 1 after the police received a call for assistance at around 6.25pm on June 6.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Video footage of the arrest was circulated on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu on June 7.

In the clip, three police officers can be seen pinning down an individual on the carpeted floor in the baggage check-in area in view of onlookers, including children.

A woman can be heard screaming incoherently, while two bags can be seen near her in the area just below Terrace Chinese Kitchen.

The Xiaohongshu original poster said the woman had brown dyed hair and multiple tattoos on her left arm and appeared to be ethnically Asian.

She was seen hitting the self-service check-in machines agitatedly, said the user who wanted to be known only as Mr Liew M.K. Some airport personnel, possibly security officers, had approached her to stop, raising a commotion, he added.

The woman was later seen taken away in handcuffs, he said, with the whole commotion ending within around 10 minutes.

He and his family had been preparing to check in for a trip to Melbourne on the evening of June 6.
