KOTA BARU: A Malaysian woman with suspected dual citizenship, believed to be part of a drug smuggling syndicate, had frequently crossed into Kelantan through legal entry points, police said.

Kelantan police chief Mohd Yusoff Mamat said checks showed the woman often entered via the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex in Rantau Panjang.

"Based on inspections of her vehicle's registration plate, it was found that she is from Pasir Mas," he said.

He told reporters this after chairing a meeting on border issues with state enforcement agencies here today.

Mohd Yusoff clarified that the woman was neither a cosmetic founder nor a social media influencer.

He said the woman had already been questioned by Thai authorities as part of their investigation.

Yesterday, Mohd Yusoff confirmed that she was the registered owner of a luxury vehicle seized by Thai authorities in a recent cross-border drug operation.

He said checks showed the Toyota Vellfire, bearing a Malaysian registration plate, belonged to the woman believed to hold both Malaysian and Thai nationalities.

He said the woman's husband was a Thai national and both are suspected to be members of a drug smuggling syndicate.

Thai authorities have previously said traffickers may be exploiting their dual Malaysian-Thai status to move freely across the border and avoid detection.
