How lucky would you be to enter a restaurant, only to find out you’re seated next to a Hollywood A-lister? That’s exactly what happened to travel vlogger Khoa Pug during his visit to Japan last month.

Except that he did not know who was beside him during the entire meal. 

While seated at the counter of the restaurant, Khoa Pug began to speak about the dishes that were being served as his companion filmed him. 

He was completely oblivious to the fact that he was seated next to Natalie Portman, who was captured in the background of his vlog several times. It seemed like the cameraman got the memo?

On the other hand, the vlogger, who was super focused on the experience of having his food prepared before him, hardly spared the Black Swan star a second glance. 

He seemed blissfully unaware of her presence up to the end of his meal, even as the seats beside him were vacated.

He only appeared to notice Natalie when he reviewed his footage, posting it on YouTube with a title which included this line: “Khoa Pug eats with an Oscar-winning Hollywood star.” 

Whether he actually knew of her we don’t know, but perhaps someone (ahem, cameraman) clued him in on exactly how famous Natalie is. 

Netizens were stunned to see that Khoa Pug did not appear to recognise Natalie during the entire time he was inches away from her, with some saying they would have jumped at the opportunity to greet her or even “squealed as a reflex”. 

Others, however, believed the famous actress would have appreciated the anonymity and peace during her meal, praising Khoa for respecting her space. 

He later responded to a comment on his video revealing he saw customers asking to take photos of her as he was having his meal. 

He then joked: “I was so angry. I thought [it was so strange that] the number one travel YouTuber in Vietnam is sitting right here, but instead of asking to take pictures [with me], they are asking to take pictures of the woman next [to me].”

Again, we’re not sure how serious he’s being. Was he really not able to recognise Natalie Portman at all?

One netizen quipped: “It should go the other way — how does Natalie not know who she’s sitting next to?”
