Volcanic eruptions are often thought of as events where days of rumbling and belching smoke is followed by a brief, but intense eruption of molten rock. But this may have not been the case at Yellowstone Volcano in the northwest US, where three massive eruptions have gone off in the last three million years. The three caldera-forming blasts were among the biggest on Earth and have carved the landscape of the US national park as we know it today.
