Zhu Houren Welcomes First Grandchild; Is Now The "Standby Chauffeur" Who Drives Baby To Health Check-Ups
There is good news from the Choo household — Zhu Houren is now a grandpa!
The 70-year-old Mediacorp actor announced on May 24 that his eldest son, local independent director Jonathan Choo, 32, has welcomed his first child.
Houren and wife Vera Hanitijo have a younger son, local actor Joel Choo, 30.
"We've been promoted!" gushed the very excited first-time granddad, who shared pictures of him and Vera with their newborn grandson, Isaac, on his socials.
The actor told Zaobao.sg that the baby was born on May 18, two weeks earlier than his expected due date, and that his daughter-in-law had gone into labour on the evening of the 17th.
"It's been a few decades since we last experienced childbirth, so we forgot that we didn't have to be so anxious. When we reached the hospital, my eldest son asked me: 'Why did you guys come so early'?"
They eventually had to wait another 24 hours before finally getting to meet baby Isaac.
Houren confessed that he felt "both happy and nervous" the first time he met his grandson, and was glad that both baby and mummy were safe.
"I also felt that time really flew by, and started recalling the time when my eldest son was still a child," he shared.
Houren was also surprised to see his usually-calm wife in a fluster before Isaac's arrival.
For starters, Vera made sure they all took ART tests, wore masks and washed their hands before meeting Isaac.
"She looked exceptionally nervous because our grandson was born early and the confinement nanny hadn't arrived yet. So my wife had to find someone else to hold the fort for two weeks," he explained.
They also spent an entire day doing last-minute shopping with the stand-in nanny as the pots and pans they ordered for the confinement meals hadn't arrived.
Now, grandma and grandpa are just dedicating all their time and energy onto their baobei grandson.
Houren, who just wrapped a shoot for SG60 short film Meet Me At The Pavilion, even spent the past week being the family's standby chauffeur, sending them to buy stuff and taking the baby for health check-ups as well as injections.
"Just now, my wife already asked me if I am free next week. I think my job as a chauffeur has to be continued," he mused.
He's such a doting grandfather, isn't he?
