Davina McCall has shared her tips for keeping the relationship with boyfriend Michael Douglas ‘magical’.

The former Big Brother host, 55, is presenting hit new ITV dating show My Mum, Your Dad, which sees the adult children of singletons trying to set their parents up to find love again.

And despite being surrounded by budding relationships, Davina has no interest in rejoining the dating poolas she shares her happiness with boyfriend Michael, 48.

The pair made their romance public in 2019, two years after Davina’s marriage breakdown with husband Matthew Robertson, who she had been with for 17 years.

Davina and hairstylist Michael seem head-over-heels for one another, and often work together, including on podcast Making The Cut, but also keep their personal life private.

This, Davina says, is the secret to keeping their romance magic.

‘I give so much of myself to the public that I need something just for me,’ she explained, saying ‘keeping my love life private …. keeps the magic.’

She insisted they’re not ‘purposefully trying to hide away from anyone’ but ‘privacy keeps our relationship special to us.’

‘There’s something lovely about it and that’s all it is. It keeps it really magical and I like that.’

She added to OK! that she would ‘never’ publicly talk about the ‘nitty-gritty’ in their relationship, from arguments to what they eat for breakfast – as ‘I want to keep that for me.’

The Dead Set star went on to lovingly describe Michael as ‘so funny’ and ‘just amazing,’ appearing as loved-up as ever close to five years into their relationship.

Davina and Michael live together in Kent,with two of Davina’s three children: Holly, 21, and Chester, 16.

Her middle daughter, Tilly, 19, recently moved to Australia.

Davina is helping to share the love in new dating show Your Mum, My Dad, and feels passionate about helping people find romance later in life.

Speaking at a special screening at the ITV offices ahead of the first episode airing, she said: ‘I just wanted to see mid-lifers represented in terms of dating.

‘In your forties and fifties and when you’ve got children, life is complicated, but more than ever you feel that you are at a point in your life where you deserve to find love.

‘They deserve to find love and spend the rest of their lives with somebody,’ she went on, before becoming emotional and having to pause, apologising to the audience.

‘It’s about opening the door and coming home to someone,’ she finally said.
