Cambridgeshire Police had been searching Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton, Cambridge for the missing 16-year-old boy, who is from Essex, and now a body has been discovered
Police searching for a teenage boy who got into difficulty at a lake have found a body.
Specialist search teams recovered a body from Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton, Cambridge at 1pm during their search for the 16-year-old boy.
Cambridgeshire Police said a formal identification is yet to take place, but it is believed to be that of the missing boy. His family, from Essex, have been notified.
Emergency services had been called at 5.26pm yesterday evening over concerns for a teenage boy in the water. It is believed the child was swimming in the lake with a group of friends when he got into difficulty. The UK saw its hottest day of the year so far on Monday after a temperature of 34.8C was recorded in Cambridge itself.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: "It is believed the boy, who is 16 and from the Essex area, was swimming in the lake with a group of friends when he got into difficulty.
"Search teams recovered a body from the lake at about 1pm on Tuesday. While formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be that of the missing boy and his family have been notified."
Burnside Lakes is an urban country park but yesterday, police urged members of the public to avoid the area. It is in the east of the city, near Cambridge City Airport which is home to four flying schools, and near the suburb of Cherry Hinton.
