KUALA LUMPUR: The 22-year-old amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter seen in a viral video knocking out a security guard outside a condominium in Selangor said he was simply "defending himself".

In an interview with local personality Caprice on Instagram (@capricedaddycap), Tony Lim said he was provoked and had acted in self-defence.

"When I talk in a simple way, I will say that the guy provoked me. So, I just defended myself," he said.

Lim said the incident followed an earlier confrontation involving the same security guard and another resident, which had also been caught on video.

The first video that went viral is on Lim having an argument with a resident.

According to Lim, tensions escalated when he went downstairs last Thursday night and was confronted by the same security guard, accompanied by two individuals whom he believed to be his bosses.

"He pointed at me and the bosses asked me if I was the one who viral-ed and commented on the video?"

Lim denied being responsible for spreading the video.

Lim said the guard had been dismissed from his duties and reiterated that his actions were solely to protect himself.

"As an MMA practitioner, we just want to defend ourselves against this. I don't want to provoke this," Lim added.

So far, there has been no official comment from the condominium's management or the security company involved.
