The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant faced disaster when in the early hours of April 26, 1986 the reactor core exploded. At the time, a safety test was being run and coupled with human error and design flaws the worst nuclear disaster in history occurred. The power plant in Soviet Ukraine emitted dangerous levels of radiation, and those in the immediate area as well as those in the town of Pripyat beyond suffered from radiation sickness.
