Jalajhia Finklea, 18, from New Bedford in Massachusetts was found dead in Fellsmere, Florida 1,400 miles from home

A pregnant teenager has been found dead in a Florida field 1,400 miles away from her Massachusetts home.

Jalajhia Finklea vanished from her home five weeks ago and now her body has been discovered off Route 95 in Fellsmere, Florida.

The man suspected of abducting the 18-year-old was shot dead three weeks ago by US Marshalls in a McDonalds car park.

Police believe that Jalajhia's death was homicide, but they must still officially identify her body and confirm the cause of death.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office said in a statement: "An autopsy will be conducted in Florida to positively identify the deceased and to determine cause and manner of death, which is believed to be homicide."

The last time Jalajhia was seen was when she got into the vehicle with the now deceased suspect, Luis Zaragoza, 37, on October 20 close to her New Bedford home.

It was the night before she turned 18 and Jalajhia was five months pregnant at the time. She disappeared in the middle of having a two-day medical procedure, according to the Boston Globe.
